I have a 15ft 1965 Starcraft w/ a 1966 40hp Evinrude
The ? is can I use a CMC 35 as it weights less about 20lbs than the 130 CMC
That weight might make a difference ?
It is my understanding that the older moters got ther HP rating from the prop not the flywheel most likly it's closer to a 35HP is that true?
The motor I think weights about 160lbs & i have a live well in the stern.
The batteries have been move to the bow area of the boat.
See picture to get a idea what boat looks like.I have made a windshield since picture was taken and got all the bugs out of motor. Runs great
Need to get front end down and I think the CMC unite might be the ticket.
The CMC will set the motor back 6" will that work for the better on not? Your views on all this please.

If you do, it'll be a tilt-only unit. It won't have the strength to trim under full thrust. However if you back-off the throttle as you trim, it will.

The setback will probably help the performance a bit. The motor is in water further back from the stern where there is less turbulence allowing it to operate more efficiently.

As to the ability to use the 35 over the 135; you could probably get by with it with that motor, but if you ever decide to repower you will most certainly be limited as to what you can use. You might want to consult with Cook Manufacturing to verify.

I did consult with Cook Manufacturing to verify and they said it's a 40 & said nothing but the warrenty would not stand.
That is a good point if I repower. Do most motors come with the trim & tilt built in these days.
Will that 20lbs make a difference?
Thanks guys: Michael

Most new outboards do come with trim and tilt above a certain HP, however not all of them do.

As to the 20 lbs, well it could it is after all an additional 20 lbs; I'm guessing it won't be too noticeable though.
