I keep my boat moored on the lake here, but refuse to pay marina gas prices! Luckily, I don't work on Fridays, so normally my girlfriend and I will take the boat out then to gas it up in order avoid the Saturday morning ramp rush. She meets me at the ramp with the trailer (and yes she is very good at backing it in) and we go down the road to fill it up. We've gotten it down so that the whole process takes about 20 mins. Out and In. Just like that. Last
Friday afternoon we do this again in order to beat the Labor Day weekend rush, and as usual everything goes as planned, like clockwork, we're back to the ramp in near record time about to put the boat in and go on our merry way. I drive into the access and notice that there are only two boats waiting to put in, but that's just fine because there are four lanes. Well, tough to explain, but there is lane that trucks line up in to wait their turn, but there is also room to go around if someone is dumb enough to
be getting their boat ready in the way. So I come around the corner and realize that I don't have the wholeshot that I thought I had because this guy in front of me is blocking both lanes. Now, I remind you we're looking at near record time here. The kicker is this: I realize that there is a State Police Officer with the guy, attempting to give him a safety check in the middle of both lanes on a Friday afternoon at 4:30!!!
Now, I have all the respect in the world for the men and women who serve
and protect, but this is just downright idiotic! The guy who owns the boat realizes I am none too happy, probably from the look on my face and the fact that my girlfriend is telling me to calm down, so he asks the officer if he should move out of the way. The officer says no, and proceeds to continue to give him the check (which he passed), and five minutes later he is done writing up the paperwork, and finally the guy is out of the way and myself and the 5 BOATS BEHIND ME!!!! can finally put in. The officer
has the nerve to wave to me as he makes his way back to his truck. I don't think he liked the dirty look I gave him, but what's he gonna do arrest me??? He's the one who should be arrested for coming between me and RECORD TIME!!! Now he should know better, right?

By the way, Saturday was much better. I caught the biggest bass of my life -- a 6lb. smallie. No joke.

I guess I can't complain if I broke one personal record this weekend...

bbb
