Hello all,

I am starting a project turning a 23' Uniflite inboard cabin cruiser into a forward cabin pilot house. The previous owner started by tearing it down to a bare hull.

Now I am converting it to an O/B on a bracket. While looking for a power plant I found a guy selling Honda 225's. He has dozens and dozens of them. Most are torn down, but quite a few in tact. He claims the the US Coast Guard had problems with some Hondas cracking lower cases. They took many apart to research and instead of putting them back, they just bought nall new Yamahas.

Has anyone heard of these? Two of my sons are in the service and they say the mechanics try to take very good care of the equipment. The seller claims the whole units test out perfect. Still trying to get more info on them.

Input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Chris

Re: Coast Guard Honda 225 trade outs

I think I would do a lot more investigation on this issue. I have never hear of that. Sounds like the same rumor that was floating about a warehouse full of blown Hondas from the gulf.
We have quite few Coastguard boats around her, I will have to ash the local guys about the problem. I know they do ding a lot of props here but that is mostly operator error and trying to do some work close to unknown shoals.
