I think boats under 18 feet need them, but they are supplied by the manufacturer when they are built. I don't think you can get one after they are built

I am sure someone knows all about it here :)

I have a 19 1/2 foot bow rider and it doesn't have a capacity tag on it. I've looked and I don't see a place where one has ever been installed.

I don't think they started putting the capacity tags on until after 1972. As far as being required for a coast guard inspection I am unsure. I have only ever been checked by the game warden and he never checked for boat tags. He did look at my registration.

what year and kind is your boat? maybe some body could take a picture of theirs and you could have a sign shop make one.

I was told in PA you must have a capacity plate. They are originally issued with the boat when made. Mine is so worn off that I have to order a replacement from the PA Fish and Boat Commission. They use the Hull ID # to recreate them. It only cost about 10 bucks to get a new one.
