Hi all. I'm not a frequent poster, but I do read the site and appreciate all the great info you guys offer. I won't name names, but there are several very knowledgable folks here that never fail to educate. So thanks.

On to my question: I was recently offered a good deal on a 92 Cobalt Tradition. Merc, 7.4 liter open bow. I have zero experience with the Cobalt brand, so I was hoping you guys could give me the scoop. Any general info on the brand or that model would be great. Good reputation? Good Hull design? Common problems? That sort of stuff.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Cobalt boats

This question comes up often. Its not about brand at that age as much as condition. Have a survey done. Cobalt is a good brand but at this age brand does not matter and condition does.

Re: Cobalt boats

I'm sorry, I forgot to mention condition. Condition is great. All maintenance done always. Motor and drive in great running shape. Always covered and stored indoors. No saltwater ever. But I was more looking for brand specific info. I trust the survey to tell me about the condition.

Re: Cobalt boats

Cobalt is in the top tier of runabout boat manufacturers, on par with Formula and Chris Craft. They are basically the premier "family runabout" manufacturer, and generally use superior materials for upholstery and hull fittings. If the boat is in good condition per the survey and water test, then I'd not hesitate in purchasing the boat if the price is right.

Re: Cobalt boats

For some reason, there isn't a ton of info on the net about the 22' Cobalt tradition. And searching this site didn't turn up much info either. Would anyone happen to know if this boat has wood floors, or fiberglass?
