Hey can any one tell me anything about the 140hp cobra engine please like common faults and what to look for as I am looking at a boat with one of these engines in it . it has been running raw salt water through the block but im not sure if they were designed to run salt water through the block or were they?

All boats were designed to run anywhere.
Now the bad news!!!
The Cobra is not a good idea to buy.
They don't make the drive, the company went out of business.
Nobody wants to work on them.
Buy anything with a Volvo or Mercruiser.
The parts are available but just a BAD idea.

Howdy,

You really should provide a little more info on what you're looking at.

Most of us can guess that "140hp cobra engine" means a 3.0L GM industrial engine.

Pretty good engine actually. You can still get parts for it if that's the one you're talking about.

However, ANY engine used in salt water for 20 years would pretty much be rusty junk by now.

Also, in general, if you're looking at a boat with the letters "OMC" in the description, Keep looking............. Most of us would suggest looking for boats that DON'T have include OMC in the description.
