MY 1987 OMC 2.3 WITH OMC OUTDRIVE JUMPS OUT OF FORWARD GEAR AT LOW RPMS(600) STAYS IN GEAR AT <br />HIGHER RPM WITH LOAD ON AND DOES NOT JUMP OUT OF REVERSE AT ALL.IS THIS AN ADUSTMENT OR A INTER PROBLEM AND WHAT IS REMEDY OR BALL PARK EXPENSE<br />I INSTALLED NEW SHIFT CABLE LAST YEAR PROBLEM JUST<br />STARTED.HAS PREVEOUSLY SEEM FIND.<br /> THANKS ED

Ed, it's been a while since I worked on an omc, however my guess is that the shift cable needs to be adjusted. If you go to the engine FAQ board on this site I believe they cover the proceedure there. This can be done in the engine compartment while the boat is in the water. I would start there before looking at the outdrive itself.
