Hi

I have a 1993 5.0 omc cobra and out drive
I have been following the manual to winterize.

Everything was going great until I got to the out drive.
I cannot remove the drain screw (C) from port side of pivot housing.
I have Removed both vent plugs(D) and drain plug (E) on starboard side of pivot housing.

Now I have tried plus gas. And an impact screwdriver.
The slotted head has been mashed by the previous owner.

I know I can get the screw out by drilling and easy outs etc.

What I need to know is if I can get a replacement screw? And from where?

Don't use Easy outs. If you break one off you're screwed.

You don't have to remove the screw.
Loosen the drive, pull it back and it exposes the passage and will drain.

Thanks for the advise.
New screw has been ordered!
And I managed to get the old one out today without drilling or easy outs!
Good to know that you can drain without removing the screw.

Thanks again

Re: Cobra Out drive drain screw.

When you put the screws back in, first rod out the hole and see if any water comes out, then put either marine grease or non hardening gasket sealer on the threads and you will not have a problem getting them out again. My outdrive sits in salt water 6 months out of the year and I have never had a problem getting those plugs out because I have always put either grease or gasket sealer on the threads. And you don't have to get them that tight either.

That's the spec in the service manual.
