Cobra drive plug in upper gear housing plug on the port side. Somebody thought they were checking gear oil and removed this plug and the fastener fell down in the drive on the inside. What is the best way to repair this? I have seen people epoxy the hole and also a welch plug put in. This plug wich I have has an oring on it like a gearcase drain plug. To get the backing part of the fastener out im assuming that the upper and lower would have to be separated. Any help would be great. Thanks so much

I did the same thing this spring! I used marine sealant to hold the little block that the screw goes in. I waited till it dried and carefully got the screw started and tightened.
What a pain!

You have to drop the lower unit to get out the nut and install it, then put the lower back on.
That thing serves no purpose, and you cant run with out the hole plugged.

I was lucky enough to get mine out with a coat hanger!
