Getting ready to pull of my sterndrive for the first time to store for winter. What size and pitch are the nuts that hold the sterndrive on? It is an 88 350 King Cobra. Thanks as always for the info.

Mine are 7/16 fine thread. Technically you're supposed to replace the nuts once they're removed. You'll need 6 of part # 3852648

I thought they were 7/16. I'm trying to find some from a local hadware supplier. Paying shipping on 6 nuts is kind of silly. I just need to figure out how fine the pitch is on them. Probably 24 or 28.

7/16-20 is fine thread (UNF), 7/16-14 is coarse (UNC)<br /><br />Regards,<br />Roger

Those are special purpose stainless steel lock nuts. If the drive loosens due to incorrect replacement nuts, you'll wish you paid the shipping costs.

Re: cobra sterndive mounting nut size

After a good deal more research, I have learned that these nuts are in fact aluminum 7/16-20 nylock nuts. I found a supplier of aircraft hardware that has them for $1.60 each. I'm going to order 12 (enough to pull the drive twice). This is still a considerable savings over the $2.60 a nut (ouch) that most boat dealers and online retailers of boat parts want. If all goes well I will post the supplier for those who might be interested.

"aluminum 7/16-20 nylock nuts"<br /><br />Interesting. The ones I just received with the part # I supplied, in a genuine Bombardier parts bag were Stainless Steel. Nyloc, yes, aluminum certainly not.<br /><br />-Roger

The ones on my 1993 Cobra, (not King Cobra) are stainless steel ny-loc, as well. Not aluminum.<br /><br />Charles

Aluminum nylocks??<br />Kinda like using heavy duty zip ties aint it?<br />I'd be looking at stainless for sure.
