Hello
Do any of you guys know if the charter guys in Gloucester or there abouts do half day or one day cod or sea bass fishing trips in the third week of February? I would like to go in my own boat but I'd come back looking like a clump of ice, so it is time to seek out a boat with a warm cabin and a good bar.
thanks.

You may want to check www.yankeecapts.com They start up in March and there cost is around $60.00 for the day. There boats hold 40 -50 people. You might want to see which boat Capt. Pete Mondello is running. He is very knowledgeable where the fish are. He fishers for a living.

Hello Flyrod.
I checked the first guy out and the price for a day for just me and my son is a bit too high. The party boat in March sounds like a better idea.I have been to the Georges Bank with the Yankee fleet before and although the fishing was lousy(1992) the professionalism of these guys is unquestionable.Thank you for your efforts.

Your welcome ! !
If you do go on a day trip when you are done fishing I'd recommend walking across the street if you are hungry for a fish dinner. The portion of food that you get is unbelieveable.

Rolmops
Keep in mind that recreational cod fishing from Nov.- March 1st is a 5 fish limit per angler After that it is a 10 fish limit for cod.

Hello Flyrod.
Thanks for that little bit of info.
I have been looking into black pearl charters, with Richard Aprans. He has a 46 footer which looks to me like a lobster rig.Do you know anything about him?
Thanks,Rolmops.

You do what you think is best for yourself.
read between the lines 600 for the trip,45 dollars for bait &ice 15dollars per rod and 150 for gaffing fish. That's 840 for the day. Plus you are still going to include the tip.
For 60 dollars more you can go with one of the best,Kayman charters and it isn't any more money.
And remember regardless who you go with you may "Not" catch any fish or you may catch a couple hundred pounds even if you went with me.

Now wait a minute "Even if you went with me".Do you run any of those rigs?If so what is your web address?
I was not really looking at the price. It was more the amount of room on deck from which you can fish. Most charter boats are limited to the stern and that one looked like a walk around.
Rolmops

My boat is a 26' Dusky center console and that time of year you And I both would look like snow men "clump of ice".
My charters don't start to May. We do cod & haddock charters but I rather do stripe bass fishing.
if you go with one of them you will be out of the weather and warm, more comfortable that time of year. My web site is www.capeannfishingcharters.com You can click on that house on my post and the web site should come up. At this time we are changing a couple of things so the web site might be down for a couple of days.

Hello Flyrod.
I saw a picture in our local newspaper showing what Antonino Torrente from Gloucester had to deal with yesterday to get the ice of his dragger.Talk about "clump of ice"!!

Some of the draggers are coated with several inches of ice when they come in this time of year. The thick ice effects the radar. While fishing you have to pick at it so the boat doesn't get top heavy, roll over and sink. In the last two weeks we have lost two draggers. fortunatly no lives were lost.
Our inner harbor is frozen, most boats are at a stand still, locked in ice. A Coast Guard ice breaker came in two days ago but didn't do much good. No lobstering and no gillnetting. The fish are getting a short reprieve. Cod fish at the dock is going for $4.00per lb. at the auction.

Same down here on the south shore FR... Haven't seen it iced in like this in a long time. I think you could walk from Hingham harbor to Boston :D Drove by the Dorchester Yacht Club today and it is solid ice...
