Wouldn't an ignition sensor leave a code in the ECM (2000 Mercruiser 5.0 EFI) if it were not working properly or at all?

Thank you
Rick

Re: Don S

Don S is an excellent mechanic and has gone above and beyond to help many of us here, we all appreciate the expertise he has to offer.

However there are tons of other people on this forum who are qualified and experienced. All of them more than willing to lend a hand. Just doesnt seem right to isolate them from trying to help.

Re: Don S

On top of what Knot said, if I recall correctly DonS frowns on "personally directed" request for help. FWIW Seems to me Newport Dave and a few others are well schooled in electronic arena.

The EFI/MPI engines equipped with a T-Bolt distributor will not set a code if the Ignition Sensor fails.

Re: Code in an ECM?

what ignition sensors are you talking about?

I have a 502mpi (mefi3) that is shutting down periodically, it will restart with no issues (until the next time). Runs flawless (besides this issue)

I ran a scan and no codes were present, I have checked for lose wires under the dash and the harness, replaced all fuses and relays, circuit breaker, checked all grounds at the back of the motor.

Would anything in the distributor or coil cause a intermittent issue? when it shuts down it is like the key was turned off, all gauges on the dash still have power so it's not a kill switch issue (replaced ignition switch)

Thanks, and let me know if I should start a new post.
