Hi,
Newbie with a basic question.
My 1986 Johnson 70HP is still running on the original coils and power pack. Is there a need or advantage in replacing these items. Engine runs well, but have had occasional episodes of power loss (lose one Cyl).

Thanks ,

Mike

I'd do some diagnostic work first. Could also be the sensor coils in the timer base...

Ledgfinder, Thanks for the reply. How do you check for a bad sensor coil? Sounds like a major job. Isn't that located under the fly wheel?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

Mike - Me thinks it is time for you to get the OMC shop manual. Most service and repair on these motors are not a big deal even if you have not done it before and the manusls show you how.
