Coil Compatibility

I was working on a friend's 1984 ERude 25hp motor yesterday evening. He has a coil that fails intermittantly, so I told him to order a new one. In the mean time, I can lend him a spare that I have.

My question is whether mine will be compatible. His motor takes the black external coils that have the spark plug type connector on them - the ones that use the spark plug wires with boots on either end. M spare coil is a new coil, but its the old style, external, green type, with the recessed post that you "screw" a spark plug wire onto.

I don't see any problem with the output side of the coil, because both would produce the same high voltage output, but I'm not sure if there is any difference on the input side. I just don't want to burn his powerpack up, by using the old style coil.

Any thoughts on this?

Re: Coil Compatibility

I'm not afraid of cutting wires. If they soldered and shrink tubed, both of which I can do, they would be fine. I also have spare terminal ends and don't need all the wire length, if I want to install the temporary coil in my own motor later on.
