Hi, I have a 1973 Mercury 650 3 cyl. I believe the coil is bad on the motor. When I took it off I noticed that there was a wire wrapped around the coil and taped, that was not hooked-up. I also noticed on a new one I was looking at that it had the same wire wrapped around the coil and taped on. Can someone tell me what this wire is for? The coil itself has a rubber boot around it and the wire was taped on under that. Is it to ground the body of the coil?
