I need to remove the foward coil but I have the standard group outdrive. Its a little smaller and does not appear to have the screw holes for the special pulling tool. I can't figure out how to grab it from behind the coil in order to pull it out streight.

Re: Coil Removal question

I got it out this mornig by modifying a harmonic balancer. Not the greatest method but little by little I was able to remove it. Looks pretty shot eh?

Re: Coil Removal question

Do you have a replacement coil? If not, an electric motor rewind shop can wind a new one. They will cut all the wires in 1 spot to count the turns, wind a new one with the same size wire, and then can pot it in epoxy for protection.

Heh, didn't think about that! A new coil is $125. I wonder what a shop would charge and would they get all the specs right. I appreciate the suggestion.
