Have a 1984 Rude 4HP twin. Losing spark at the bottom plug. Popped the wheel, and it looks great in there, and points look fine. So I want to try a new coil. Now, I have a new coil that I have which goes to a Rude 1955 15hp (still working on it, and it a winter project) that looks EXACTLY the same. Numbers on the top are both 512154. Side numbers are different though. In fact all three have different numbers.
One coil on the 4hp are 582993 and 12T-OA
Other is 582992 (same), with 3U-OA
Rude 15hp coil is 583249 though, with 19L1B-BA
Like I said, they look the same...does anyone know if they are interchangeble. Save me a 50 mile trip to town. Thanks...

From what I find, all 1.5 HP thru 40HP use the same coil, updated # 584477. Should work fine...

Exactly rickdb1boat said.

I think they changed the p/n every time they changed what kind of plastic they used on it. Or what colour they painted them. That coil goes by a hundred different numbers.

Didn't think there would be a bunch of different coils, even during all those years. Would NOT make sense to change a simple point ignition design that works. Thanks guys...
