coils '75, 115hp

I've got a 1975 115hp and I am wondering if I were to replace the coils, do they have to be the same ones or can they be from a newer motor? the style that is on there have cracks but are working fine. they are considerably more expensive than the newer style. thanks

You can use the new style, but you have to add a cap and boot for the incoming lead. the old coils had the wiring internally connected.<br />It's not a problem if you can find the caps for the small posts on the new coils...the posts for the sparkplug lead are the same on the new coil.
