Cold air intake

I have a 04 Chevy 3/4 ton with the 6.0 gas. I was thinking about putting in a cold air intake. Is it worth it? And do the cheaper ones work just as well as the more expensive ones?

No, and definitely NO

CAIs increase intake noise, however do not really add any performance to the motor over simply changing your air filter every other oil change

Additionally, the MAFS can be damaged by many oiled filters

And do you really want to trust your $5000 engine air filtration to a cheap chinese knockoff?

So your saying I should keep it stock? It’s crazy that there is such a big market on these things if they don’t help and or possibly make it worse.

There is slso a big market for stickers, wings for a honda civic, camber plates for front drives and bro truck parts

Ever wonder why jacked up trucks dont have front driveshafts? Because all show jacked up kits put the fron cardon joints in a bind

If you want your motor to live a long life, make sure you have good filtration

If you like intake noise, reduced filtration and cleaning your MAFS often buy a CAI

Even my ‘05 F150 had a cold air intake, One engineered by Ford to work with my engine. Most of those aftermarket cold air intakes actually draw engine air from the engine bay, where it is anything but cold…

I changed the intake on my LS1 Firebird (years ago) because of the internal geometry of the stock one - it was sort of an oval that forced some of the intake air into closed baffle chambers on either side of the main passage, if I remember right. I went to a straight shot SLP one with no extra chambers. It drew from the same location, just under the front of the hood.

I don't remember any noise increase, but wouldn't have minded that.

The one time I had that car to the track it ran in the 13s on the first pass with the stock intake, and a somewhat tire-spinning takeoff. Then on my 3rd and last pass, a kid in an LT1 Z28 ran neck in neck with me (should've had like 30 less hp than me) and said all he had was a CAI. Maybe geared differently...

As a kid, I had a '69 Chevy car with a 350 that had a stock air cleaner with a restrictive venturi intake at the end of the opening. I guess the idea was to cool the air by the pressure drop? Idk if that worked or not. The later 70s ones didn't have that feature. I went to an open round air cleaner, and got a LOT of intake sound out of that, heh.

I remember flipping the air filter assy lid - the cheap HP fix, LOL! 73 El Camino, 2bbl, 350 , geared for hiway, NOT off the line ;), after that they all went to a K&N setup

I still do that on my '75 400sbc 4bbl, just for the sound. Extra tall filter too (lotsa hood clearance).

I removed the restrictive huge plastic air muffler on the front of my Jeep Hemi and replaced it with a Mopar CAI. It sounds GREAT and makes servicing easier. Does it add power? Who knows but I love to hear what’s under the hood
