I have a 1997 Johnson 200 hp. I can not get this thing to run smooth when it first starts up. When it warms up it runs great. I have changed plugs and done everthing I know to help, but it still takes about 6 times to start it where it will keep running.

rhebert, Is this carbureted motor ,fuel injected?<br />I understand changed plugs but don't know what the everything else is.Fuel tank connections , primer bulb, primer solenoid, battery voltage while cranking?Post back with all of the specifics on what motor you have and you'll get more responses than you can handle at a time.

I am sorry I did not leave enough info. The motor is carbs and has the primer solenod. As far as voltage at startup that has all been checked out and it is allright. Every time I pump the bulb till it is tight.

Re: cold engine starting

What is your starting procedure? Turn key to ON, Push and hold for 5 Sec. Keep holding key in and try to start it. If you do this already and it does'nt start, pop open the Cover on the Motor and turn the little red lever on the Primer Selonoid at the Carb. 90 Degrees and try to start it. Sounds like Electric Primer is not working. Do you hear a Click at the Primer Selonoid when you push the key in? Have someone push the key in and out, while in the ON position, while you listen at the Selonoid.
