hi!
i have a merc 50hp blueband 4cyl, 2stroke, handstart. i think its 1981
got it from ebay, let the seller coldstart it (but guess he fooled me on that)
anyway, i can't start that thing if its cold. tried different ways. at 1st choke it, nothing happened, no smoke, nothing. screwed out plugs, soaking wet, dryed them. again tried with WOT .. nothing.. next checked spark - all ok. plugs where wet again though. this time i cleaned the plugs with break cleaner and put some compressed air through the plug holes. this time engine started on first try at WOT. i stopped and started again for 10 times. left it 2 hours, started again fine. next morning, no chance to start. spark plugs wet after pulling 3 times.
i simply dont get how the fuel comes in there that quick. i also checked if the needlevalves are closing. didn't check the level yet. but i think if level is too high, fuel would come out of the front side of the carbs, right? espacially because the engine is slightly tilted to the front.
if the engine runs, it idles pretty well, sounds clear and everything. i really dont understand why its not firing up .. is there a special technique?
im really stuck here
i dont want to start my boat with breakcleaner every time :I (yes i know thats a bad idea cause of the missing oil)
could anyone maybe provide me the default settings for the carbs? except float level, i already found it in several posts here.
please help. weather is good now, i want to drive
regards
andy
