I have a '89 4.3 Mercruiser and it takes a long time to start when cold. (A lot of cranking) I replaced the carb because of a bad choke, but it still does the same thing. It runs and starts fine when warm. It seems like it has a hard time sucking the gas from the tank I replaced everything including fuel lines filters and tank was removed and cleaned. I removed the check valve at the tank because it was sticking. All new electrics including battery.

Would a primer bulb on my fuel line help?

Or how about a low pressure electric fuel pump made for carbs?

On a cold start you are pumping the throttle a few times, right?

Make sure when you pump the handle that you are actually getting gas quirts into the carb throat.

Isn't standard operating procedure 1 full pump of the throttle then back to fast idle? If I need a fuel pump would electric be better than mechanical with the 2bbl mercarb? What is the best make of pump to buy?
