hey guys,

I live up in Maine and plan on doing some cold weather sea duck hurting this year (below zero weather). I just got a new to me boat this summer, and plan on using it. It's a 20 ft Wellscraft center with an 86 200 Evinrude. My question is do I have to do anything to protect the motor/batteries when running in cold weather??

when your running you shouldnt have a problem its when you get out of water make sure to leave motor down to get all water out asap at that temp its going to freeze quick. make sure you have fresh lower end oil before starting out.just keep batteries at full charge

the water temp up here in the winter will get down to around 40/45. at it's lowest.

As the water gets colder good thermostats become increasingly important for performance as well as protecting the cylinders..

i would say in those temps as long as the motor is down, so it can drain, even in the water, it will be fine. as said make sure tstat are operating correctly. you don't want to trim up when sitting still in the water as it will trap water in the lower and freeze it out there. it would be a cold paddle home.
