I checked my lower unit for the first time today, and it did not seem to have any water in it but the color of the oil was somewhat dark. I have never had any expierience with a boat before this one and was just curious, Its a 1985 85 horse FORCE motor. MODEL 856X5L and it runs goos after getting the kinks out but I thought I would check after a couple of fun days on the lake. Do different brands of oil have differnt color? Thanks guys, there is no better place to get the kind of knowledge that you guys offer.

Yes, my Merc came with dark blue oil. Most aftermarket oil is more golden in color.
