Looks beautiful! Love those classic lines. How long did it take you start to finish?

Well, three years actually...I have two young kids, so boatbuilding time was hard to come by. It was a lot of fun and the kids enjoyed helping out. I'm thinking about doing some stand up paddleboards as a next project, can't let the Mrs. think the garage is really for cars.

Good luck with the paddle boards. Try not to make the ones that tip over... I always get the ones that tip over...

Cool little skiff. Must give you a great sense of accomplishment to see her on the water after all that work.. Nicely done.

Nice little skiff. I've wanted to do a project like that, but I don't think I could get it done even in three years ... I completely understand the time issue.

We used to try to flip each other off our paddle boards - old home made ones not designed to stand up on - but we had a blast with 'em.

I hope the paddleboards will only take a short time since I know the basic skills for stitch and glue construction. I think the kids would have a blast with them on the lake. I'm picturing towing the boards with my skiff to a quiet cove where they can have some safe fun on the water.

Southkogs, you should go for it...you could always build something smaller at first (which I should have done) to see if you enjoy it, then you could build something bigger. The nice thing about taking so long is that you get to really think about how you want things to be set up on the boat and how you are going to do it. Bateau2.com is a good resource for plans with a great forum to help along the way. My plans came from Selway-Fisher in England. Paul Fisher was always quick to answer questions via e-mail.

Yeah ... I've been gettin' closer. Thinkin' about building a small sail boat. Somethin' easy 'n fun. Y'all will be the first to know if I've jumped in. Gotta' do the swim platform on my boat first. And fix the deck, some of the vinyl siding, yadda, yadda, yadda ...

BTW - what outboard is that on the back?

She's beautiful! Looks like a '68-'69 Johnson 20hp to me. It's virtually identical to my '66 20hp. I bet it pushes that little beauty along nicely. Congratulations again on a beautiful build. Not bad for a land lubber ;)

Re: Colorado Skiff

The motor is a 1970 johnson 25 hp in good shape with compression over 100 in both cylinders. I was expecting a little more speed out of her, but I may need to re-prop. I'm going to get a tiny-tac so I can see what's happening, plus take the gps out to see what kind of speed I am getting. I'm thinking I am not getting it up to the proper rpms. Regardless, we had fun the few times we got out last summer and really looking forward to this spring.

Oh and KFA, I'm only half landlubber:)...I grew up in VA and my mom has a house on the Chesapeake bay.
