I am restoring a 1986 Thundercraft Regency 162 with a new rebuilt mercruiser 120 the floor is shot the hull and transom are in great shape though I have removed a majority of the floor so far however I have more time than money a friend has two 4x8 sheets of 1.25" plywood that he said I could have so that will be the stringers and floor supports as well as engine cover. I am planning a fish and ski concept on the boat.

What have you done to confirm that the transom is indeed good to go?

I have at this point removed the floor of the boat as it was no good the transom at this point does seem solid but that is not confirmed looking at the gelcoat there are no cracks or spiderwebbing in the gelcoat

Drill it only way to Know. Mine had no outward signs it was bad in the glass. My clue was. Alot of GM 4200 on the outdrive. And there was a foot long section 6 inches wood where the wood was completely gone. I mean air space filled with water.

Transom is alot easier to do that what you already have done. Best make sure since ot all got to come back out if it goes out in the future.
