Commander 2000

I have a mercury commander 2000 remote control for a 90 mercury 90 engine. Had to change the trim/tilt switch. In putting in the new trim/tilt, a red plastic piece broke--from where I am not sure. I believe that this does disengage the netural switch especially now the engine will not turn over. I have looked at parts diagrams but do not see the part. Any suggestions?

Ordered new switch and when replacing, noticed that the old switch was red on the bottom and a piece had broke off--go figure.

Seems to work fine.
