I have a 54' CD-11 and a 57' 7522 (I think is the model#).I noticed on one site that their parts list only goes to 55'..So my question is will parts such as impeller, ignition coil, and such from say a 55 or 56 fit my 54 so long as the hp is the same?Im just starting to get into old motors as a hobby and am pretty dumb on changes made from year to year. Does anyone know of a chart or literature that shows what years,hp,and models are interchangeable?
THANKS,

Yes, pretty much all of the consumables used on the '55 will work on the '54... The ignition components are universal to all of the 2-cylinder OMCs of that era, beginning about 1952 or 1953 depending on the model. Other parts are more motor family specific, but there's still a lot of crossover.

Oh that's great thanks Chinewalker!
Here's another one I meant to ask..I seen somewhere that the pull rope on my 54' which was originally had a steel core Gould be replaced by quality nylon pull rope that is 5/32" (.156") in diameter. Will 1/8" or 3/16" work just for a couple pull tests good enough to see where I need to begin with buying and changing out parts, and if so which would you recomend the bigger or smaller than 5/32"?

Thanks Again!

You can go with a nylon rope, but it wouldn't hold up as well as the original. As far as the coils go, all twins and singles take the universal style ignition system from 1951, on up till about 1974. Impellers are interchangeable from 1954 till 1979 on the 5's, 5.5's and 6's. Most OEM dealers will sell waterpump kits, that come with all the parts, but it'll be a different shape and size impeller and housing.
As far as other parts go, 1954 and 1955 CD's are the only two model years that are 100% interchangeable with each other. Your 7.5 is 100% interchangeable with 1956 - 1958, but lower unit parts are interchangeable with the 5.5's from 1956 on.
