Comparing a 1994 and a 2000 225HP Johnson/Evinrude

I am considering swapping my 1994 Johnson 225 (1,400 hours and running good) for a 2000 Evinrude 225 (1,000 hours and seemingly running good). All of the maintenance records are there and it seems as though the Evinrude has been well cared for. The guy is asking $2,900 for the newer motor (which according to NADA, seems about $1,000 too high) and I'm not sure what I could get for mine. There would also be the costs associated with installing/uninstalling both engines. So here are my questions:

What are the main differences between the 1994 and the 2000?

Is it worth upgrading and if so, what would you suggest is the most out of pocket I should be willing to part with?

Any other thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks for your time. Russ

After posting this, a few threads came up and one addressed the 2000 FICHT motor. It didn't get any good reviews!!

the price is about right. I am no fan of the Ficht motor even though all models did not give problems. I would keep what I had if I was you. Thats a great motor. If you upgrade go to an e-tec or optimax..just skip the Ficht.

While the FICHT motor may not have the best reputation it will give you much lower fuel consumption than your older carbed motor.

At 1000 hrs even with a good maintenance history I wouldn't think the motor could be worth more than about $1500-2000....mostly because of the poor reputation that the FICHT name has.

If it were a 2001 or newer it would be less of a gamble.

If your current motor is healthy, I'd keep it until an equivalent e-tec comes down in price.
