Just curious to know what the comparison in horsepower, torque, and fuel consuption would be between a 1984 Johnson 150GT V6 Cross Flow and a 1986 Evinrude V4 120 Looper. I'm to the understanding that OMC started Prop Shaft rating horsepower in 1985, if this is correct I would suspect that the HP and torque might be similar. I also suspect that the V6 cross flow is going to be harder on fuel that the looper. Also were would a 99 Johnson 130 V4 Looper measure up in comparison to the above to motors.

The 150GT is basically a 200 block...the port timing and what-not. The V4 Looper is a strong engine, and better on fuel to some extent, but the 99 130 would be best on fuel and real close on power to the 120. I think speed-wise, there will be a slight edge with the GT150 due to the size of props used, and it's "pumped" slightly..

Having had cross flow's and loopers, I am awed and amazed at the fuel economy of loopers on light, fast hulls, or pad boats. Even if you are pulling water skiis there is a trememdous difference. Unless it was real low hp, I'll never buy a cross again.

Mark
