Hello-
Can anyone explain the difference between newer electric start brackets for evinrude and johnson 18,20,25hp models from the older brackets. I want to put an electric start on my 1964 Johnson 18HP FD-18E motor. Original parts number for bracket is 308482. I believe this was superceded to 317328 until 1976, then in 1977, it changed to 320012. Looking at pictures, the 320012 looks like it will bolt right up to my 1964 18hp? Only difference I see is that starter solenoid is bolted to 320012 bracket, where the older ones did not have provision for this. What is the difference in these brackets? Bolt holes all look like they are in the same spots as 308482 bracket. Also, my flywheel already has the teeth for starter to engage to, and I believe I would want a starter with 11 teeth (someone correct me if I am wrong). Any input on this would be great! Thanks in advance for helping.
