i'm using the 'basic no-blush' epoxy from epoxyproducts.com

i have gone through half my order and i have a feeling i may need a bit more. problem is, the smallest unit they sell is 1.5 gal and i'm positive i won't need that much. also , there's a lead time as it is mail order.

so if i do indeed need more, can i just pick up a quart of MAS from one of the boat stores locally? will it bond with the epoxy i'm already using if it hasn't fully cured? obviously i'm not planning on actually mixing it together, i just want to make sure i'm not setting myself up for disaster.

matt

I used System3 and i used the stuff from U.S. Composites. Only difference was ratios. they both did the job. The plywood was coated with System3. The cloth was layed ove this with U.S. Composites.
No issues I could see.

I used West System then went to US Composites before I had to mortage the home. I would probobly use up your old stuff, let it kick, and prep before going to the MAS. That shouldnt slow you down much.
TH

I used West and could not get smaller than 1 gal locally. Switched to MAS to finish. It did fine.

thanks guys,

fyi the stuff i'm using from epoxyproducts.com is great. it's a bit more expensive than the uscomposites stuff, but it doesn't blush at all. it's $69 for a 1.5 gal kit (1 gal pt a, 1/2 gal pt b)

just thought i'd put in a plug. their web site is terrible though.

btw, reka12... your project looks awesome. excellent job.

matt

Re: compatibility of different epoxy brands

reka,

mine is a 14' fiberglass "carolina" skiff, flat bottom (a very skinny water boat!). i'm redoing the floor and transom and changing the layout, although keeping it a tiller to save space. i removed the livewell (also could have served as a center console mount) and the fiberglass seat pedestals. i'm going to do a bench/storage seat in the front and use the old pedestal in the back. it's rated for a 25 and i eventually plan to repower (have a 10 now). it will be quite a handful with a 25 i think, especially now that it's not full of waterlogged wood and foam.

will post pics soon. i have been documenting with pics but haven't had time to make a cohesive gallery.

matt

Matt: Sounds like your starting with a good hull! Yes, compared to the 10 hp, it ought to zip with the 25. Good luck and keep us posted.
Mike
