OMC mechanical shift control boxes are interchangeable betweem 1973 to 1995. There are some minor differences in them, but they will all work. A 1996 and newer will work, but you will need some expensive adapter cables. One of the bigger differences is whether there is a trim switch in the control box handle. The shift/throttle cable ends changed in 1979.
