Compression and Decarb Questions

I have the boat at the house and am going through a few things over the winter in preparation for fishing in Feb. I have rebuilt the carb and will rebuild the water pump assembly. Additionally, I have replaced the wheel bearings and installed buddy bearings and LED tail lights. So far everything is going well.

Any how, I have a 1999 Force 40hp. I checked the compression today and found that my top cylinder had ~136lbs of compression and the lower cylinder had ~148lbs of compression. Are these numbers acceptable?

I haven't performed a thorough decarb of the engine before and did notice some carbon build up on the plugs. What is the best way to do a good decarb and will I risk damaging the engine by doing this?

Thank You!

Re: Compression and Decarb Questions

Your compression is fine, GR8.

Decarb should be done according to the instructions from the maker of whatever stuff you use.

Also there is a decarb procedure in the How to section of this forum which uses seafoam. Good read and numerous people have tried it and approve of the method.
