Re: compression evinrude

As long as the compression is within 15 lbs (not %) from hi to low its fine. Make sure you use the same proceedure each time. Whether its hot or cold, throttle open or not -- just do it the same with the same gauge each time.

Re: compression evinrude

On new engines compression usually starts at well over 100 pounds and gradually tapers off with use and/or abuse. When it gets to about 80 you are on the down side and at 60 or less starting can be very difficult. <br />The problem with stating numbers is compression gages get old, get beat up, someone sticks a tire valve core in the inlet and funny readings show up. Truer readings are delivered when the engine is warmed up, the carb is wide open and a gage in working order is used.
