Hello all,

I am going to look at an old Evinrude and Atwater outboards. I plan to check compression before purchasing but do not know what readings I am looking for. Can anyone tell me what a good reading would be for these.

The fellow is asking $75 a piece, sound reasonable?

Also, what size spark plug socket do you think I'll need?

I've attached pics if this helps.

Thanks

Price depends on what you guys agree on. The Evinrude is an antique and probably worth it. Sorry, I don't have specs on the compression. Plug wrench most likely is 13/16" on the Scott-Atwater. Can't say on the Evinrude. Might be an 18mm thread size plug (?) Trusty Crescent wrench will do it.

60 psi And even between cylinders would be real good on those old hand cranked boys.

The Evinrude is 1939 - 1941 Handitwin. I have one and it runs excellent with 65 psi, both cylinders, on a snap-on guage. The coils tend to be bad on them so check for spark. The plugs are 18mm threads.

I have 2 videos of mine on youtube. Search on Handitwin.
