Compression Problem

I have a 1966 Chrysler 50hp model # 50661. I was on the lake Monday and it was performing very well until it all of a sudden slowed from 28mph to 5mph. I had to run it slow for 3 miles to get back to the trailer. It had good water flow the entire time. I checked it this morning and found the compression on the top cylinder was 143psi and on the bottom cyl about 25psi. Could the head gasket have failed or is there something else I should look at first? Thank You

Re: Compression Problem

First thing I would check is the gasket. When the head is off you can inspect the cylinder walls as well.
