compression Q's

i am looking to purchase a 96 yamaha 50 horse from a guy i work with. i am wanting to know if anyone knows how much compression i should be expecting from a motor of this age in good condition. i have not tested it but i will before the purchase. please let me know if you have any idea. thanks

ANything over 100 psi is good but to be sure you should do a leak down check instead of a compression check. this will be as accurate as you will get.

thanks for the prompt response. ill do that. believe it or not i contacted a local boat shop and they wouldn't give me any advice on this matter unless i brought them the motor.

as long as the compression is roughly the same on all 3 cyl ...... between 90 - 120 is ok ....
