Hi,

I have put together a mercruiser 350 from -96. The engine is not started yet but today I made a compression test and the result was that most of the cylinders had around 8 bar but one(nr 8) had 6.5. This particular cylinder is sleeved, has a new piston and new rings. The others is only honed and has new rings. Could this be the reason for the lower compression? The cylinder needs to be break in before the compressions is at its best?

Should this worry me or is it perhaps a false reading? Perhaps there is less oil in the nr 8 cylinder since a installed the pistons? Perhaps I did the valve pre-load different on the nr 8 cylinder?

Ayuh,.... Never heard of doin' a compression test on a rebuilt, unstarted motor,...

Run it, 'n see where it's at, after 10 hours run-time or so...
