Hi,
I'm looking at buying a boat and I was provided with the following compression test readings for twin 2002 Mercruiser Bravo 190hp. The readings were stated as "excellent"...is this true? It was checked because there is a little bit of blue smoke coming from the port engine. Thanks for the help.
Port-(1)140 (2)135
(3)135 (4)135
(5)135 (6)140
Starboard-(1)135 (2)135
(3)135 (4)140
(5)140 (6)135

The numbers look good to me, close together, and in the correct range.

A very reputable marine center that is also selling it. But even if the numbers look good, it doesn't take care of the blue smoke coming from the port engine when in idle. I'm assuming this is a big cause for concern which would need to be fixed or accepted with risk.

Does the blue smoke occur after starting only or does it happen continually? Could be just bad valve guides.

It goes away above idle and/or underway. Thanks.

It might be just valve guide seals, Chevy car motors use small o-rings which self destruct in no time, stock fel-pro Pontiac umbrella seals are the ones to get for replacement, AND, OMC, & Mercruiser use these as standard equipment on their Marine engines. Maybe the right ones weren't put in the motor at one time? (an unaware car mechanic?)
