Compression test result question

Ok so I ran a compression test today with a borrowed gauge and it wasn't a screw in you had to hold a rubber boot in the plug hole. Also I dont know if it matters but it was also missing the glass. Anyway the results where 65psi on both cylinders on my 1985 40hp Johnson. This seems a little low but I suspect the tester may be faulty. What are your opinions?

Re: Compression test result question

I would try hard to get a different gauge before I got too worried. Best of luck. Rick.

Also the engine starts and idles like a champ. Starts first time everytime.

are you just looking for things to worry about?....did you do the compression test as a baseline?

Re: Compression test result question

I am having some issues at WOT with surges. Doing a compression test was one of the suggested tests.

Re: Compression test result question

I actually replaced all the fuel lines yesterday and took it out today and it ran strong all day and didn't surge once. Thanks to everybody for all the advice.

Re: Compression test result question

Must be a pull rope to have that kind of compression and still run good all day
