ok, so i just did a compression test on the 66 johnson seahorse. i followed the sticky, except i had it in water and it was done cold. the numbers were around 119 for the top and the bottom were 116. does the engine NEED to be warmed up and does it NEED to be done out of water?

You did OK. Compression can be done cold. I don't usually do them in the water just because I would probably fall overboard.

it was in a bucket, not out on the water lol. So since the numbers were almost same in each cylinder is it safe to say i have good compression?

Over 100 psi and within 10% of each other is considered good.

Was the reason for the compression test to find a problem? If so what is the problem, maybe someone can help you out.
