Compression Test ? - With no lower unit on ???

[USS Neversail]

I was told that while I have my lower unit off, I can still check the compression by trying to start the motor. This guy has been pretty reliable, but I wanted some other opinions before I tried it. I can't afford a messed up motor. <br />Any thoughts on this? Your input is appreciated.<br /><br />Jason<br /><br />P.S. - 83 Evinrude 50hp<br />Thanks

Don't see a problem with it. Just make sure there is NO chance of motor starting.
