I'm planning on doing a compression test on my 97 Johnson 150 (not ficht).
The compression tester I bought has instructions for a car engine and says you need to ground the wire from the coil. What is an easy way to do this on my motor? Is this something I even need to do?
Thanks,
Dan

Re: Compression test

hello
I use a spark tester so I can control the spark on your motor you either need to ground the blk/yellow wire at the pack or unplug the pack from the stator. what you dont want is sparks occuring while cranking as air/fuel mix is sprayed out of the cyl's when cranking.

Re: Compression test

Leave the ignition key off,and jump the starter solenoid to crank,or use a spark tester.Spark should jump 7/16 of an inch cranking with the plugs in.

DHP

Yep,or leave the key off.Either way works.Kill switch works, but I use the key switch cuz I am also checking spark.

DHP
