Compression ???

I've got a 2001 150HP optimax. I just had it winterized and the dealer says the compression is 110 psi across the board.
It was 125psi last year which was the first year I owned it.

Is this sort of drop in compression something I should be concerned about? The motor has had some warranty issues and I would like to know if theres something amiss.

Thanks

Re: Compression ???

Probably just the different gauges used or the manner in which it was checked. Best thing to do is get your own gauge and check it yourself. They really aren't that expensive.

Re: Compression ???

With the aging of an engine, you are going to lose a little bit of compression, also the way that the compression test was done makes a difference, i.e. throttle open or closed, screw in gauge or press guage. But the big thing is that they are all the same. If you had difference of more than 10% from one cylinder to the next, that would be the time to start scratching your head. Should be good though.

Re: Compression ???

Thanks for the replies!
I didn't know there could be such a drastic difference between different guages but after speaking with the dealer he pointed out that all guages are not created equal.
I guess the most important thing is that all cylinders pressured up the same so I won't worry about it until next year. Hopefully it doesn't continue to drop.
