I used a auto compression tester to check the compression on my 9.5. and neither cylinder would reg anything. Will this tester work on a boat engine or was my tester defective? Motor has compression i am sure starts and runs good in barrel but not on the water on the back of the boat./

Re: Compression

An auto tester should work on your engine, AJohnston. You may have a defective tester.

Is it a screw in or press in type? Did you turn the engine over at least 5 times for each cyl.?

Some types of testers I have seen have a little finger screw valve to release pressure after a check. Could you have one of those with the valve open?

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

Re: Compression

JB thanks. it was the press in type with auto type valve. I tried to turn it over maby two or three times. when i hold my finger over the spark plug whole's it sure seems to have compression. should i get compression when the engine is cold never started? I am just having trouble when under load in the water, in barrel runs fine. I am begining to think that i have a problem with coil, points, consdenser or kill swithch shorting out I just keep looking and hopeing to find the trouble.
