Compressor belt broke on the water. 2001 Mercury Optimax DFI 200hp

First time boat owner. Have been out already for a few hours. Boat ran fine. Stopped and fished a spot. Went to turn on the motor to fish a different spot, the motor would turn on, sputter for a bit then dies. Got back home noticed the compressor belt broke. Has anyone had any experience with the belt breaking and what damage it could cause? Also, average cost of getting it fix by a marine shop? Thanks.

Not much experience on the OPTIMAX but I would say that a broken belt would indicate major problems with the compressor.-------All I can think of is ----BOAT---as in " bring on another thousand " or two.

Two things break belts on Opti's....compressor failure or pulley bolts shear. If compressor did that a chit flush the entire oiling system( not the oil injection) and change upper main filter.
