I was running a 3 blade aluminum prop with a 21" pitch (unkown diameter) on my 18' bowrider with 190 hp. Top end was good but boat was slow to get on plane. I was hitting my max RPM (4,200) at WOT, with a top end speed of approx. 44 mph.

I recently purchased one of the cheap composite props for kicks and giggles (and to have a spare prop on board) and am very pleased with the results.

I bought a 4 blade Comprop 13.6" diameter, 20" pitch. Boat not only gets on plane much quicker, but will stay on plane at slower speeds. I only lost 2-3 mph on the top end speed as well. I am exceeding my max RPM (by 200 rpm's) at WOT, but I can keep a close eye on that.

I'm still uncertain of durability, but for $100 I could afford a new one every season if needed. I'm sure if it hits something substantial that it will break, but at least the outrive won't take the hit. If you've considered trying a Comprop and your boat is within the recommended weight / horsepower range, I'd say go for it.
