Well, my old computer's motherboard/processor gave up the ghost. I have the new computer up and running and loving it! Question is, I have the old hard drive that is still good (running XP) installed into an external case that I can plug in to the new machine with a usb cable. What is the best way to transfer my files and favorites/bookmarks onto the new computer? (Win 7, 64bit) Will plugging in a HD with another OS on it mess up anything on the new machine? It's ready to plug in, but I haven't had the guts to try it yet!

If you mean the "My Documents" files, and your favorites, it is pretty easy.
On the XP hard drive, your files will be in C:\Documents and Settings\(login name)\My Documents select all the files in here and copy them. Open the Windows 7 hard drive and go to C:\Users\(login name)\My Documents and paste the files.
Next copy the C:\Documents and Settings\(login name)\Favorites folder and paste it to C:\Users\(login name) It will ask if you want to overwrite the files, say yes.
This will not transfer saved files for programs, but will get most of your files over for you.
If you have questions, you can email me at kcchappy (AT) mtaonline.net
