Re: computer help - msn

MATTTTT25.........

I have a Sony Viao computer that came with a anti-virus system called "PC-cillin", not the Norton brand. This system was to expire after the first year, but I paid to continue it and was able to download the upgraded system it online. It also sends you updates every couple or few days, you download while you use your computer.

The MSN network is FILTHY with worms, virus' and spyware, as I found this out a few weeks ago when I reinstalled it in my computer.

On my youngest son's HP computer was having problems, so I reinstalled MSN on his also. Again it was infiltrated with spyware, virus' and worms.

His came with the Norton anti-virus, which I think is junk.

I went to "FRYS" and bought him a Trend Micro PC-cillin set up for only $39.95, installed it and it it captured over 130, yes, 130 worms, virus and including apx. 50 items of spyware.

His computer is now as clean as Snow White and runs programs and downloads with greater speed, than with the Norton system, which was like using "Swiss Cheese" for an antivirus.

This Trend system offers full web, e-mail and live phone support.

Go to www.trendmicro.com to view their site, to see what grades of antivirus is available. The system we are using is the "PC-cillin Antivirus 11." You might try FRYS online, for the best price on this system. You won't be disapointed.

I have nothing to do with this company, or any other of it's type, but It has been money well spent. It is best to get the CD, rather than download it on line, as it is much easier and faster to install or reinstall it, if you need to.

...Bob in Calif...

Re: computer help - msn

thanks guys. this morning before work i took the easy step and installed spybot. after a few runs and reloads, icleaned up a bunch of stuff. i was then able to actually get to hotmail. the problem now is that every time i run spybot, it detects the same 5 files. it says it cleanes them up, but i run it again and it finds them again. any suggestions?

also, i still can't get norton to update properly. it keeps telling me programs are running that keep it from installing the updates. it may be a separate problem, but i think it is tied to spyware since i used to get pop ups when i tried to run the norton software.

click start, find, find files and folders, put
in name spybot gave you and let it search 4 them,
then try to manually delete them.
good luck,
M.Y.

yeah, i'll give that a try, but i think it just gives you classifications of files, not their file names. when i get home, i'll run it again and post more detailed info on the message i'm, getting.

i'm sick of this crap. brand new computer @ over 2 grand, cruise the internet and stick to decent websites, and this crap just happens over time.

bob suggested trend. is there any other powerful programs that will clean and keep clean my computer? at this point, i don't mind spending serious dough to keep it right.

Re: computer help - msn

try a common name from file in search. as long as
the "part" u choose is common to all files, the
search will find it... exact filename not required.
most common is "anyuser". try this search first.
when all files appear, click on edit, select all,
then when all r highlighted, click file, delete all.

mattttt25........

Here is the phone number for the Trend co. (408) 257-1500, (no 800#).

Give them a call and tell them what you are looking for and I'm sure their product will have what you need and more. What the heck, it will only cost you a phone call.

...Bob in Calif... (25 miles south of San Fransicko)

Re: computer help - msn

well, may have fixed it for now. i ran spybot and adaware a few times until i was only detecting these 5 items in spybot. spybot kept saying they were fixed, but yet it would find them again after another run.

i went online for norton help and read how to manually download the updates. i got them installed and ran a scan. i detected two trojan horses, and was able to clean them up.

thanks for the help. we'll see how long this lasts...

If you cant delete them, try starting your computer in "safe" mode. Many times you cant delete the files because they are in use, which is one of the tricks the worm creaters use. In safe mode only files needed to operate are opened.
